The = specific! 

1. 앞에 나온 명사를 다시 언급할 때.

I have two bags for books. one is a blue bag, another one is a red bag. 

the blue bag is one which my mom gave to me.

the red bag is one which my friends gave to me for my 23nd birthday present.

2. 처음 나온 명사라 하더라도 정황상(전후관계)로 보아, 무엇을 가르키는지 명확할 때.

1. 세상에 하나 뿐인 것을 말할 때 

What is the longest river in the world? (there is only one longest river) 

The sun is the blightest star near the earth. 

*기억하기

the sky / the sea / the ocean / the ground / the country / the enviroment

The ocean is close to my apartment.

l prefer to live in the country.

we try to protect the enviroment

but, "Space" ( without "the") mean Space in the universe"  

*어떤 것의 종류,  특성에 대해 말할 때는 a를 쓴다. 

The sun is a star. (=one of many stars)

The hotel we stayed at was a very nice hotel. 

*Same : Same 앞에 The 를 쓴다. 

mine is the same colour of yours

* 특정한 영화관, 영화 등을 의미하는 것이 아닐 때, 

 

the movies / the theather 

*라디오랑 같은 이유로 the ridio로 쓰고, 텔레비전, tv의 경우에는 같은 이유로 the를 쓰지않는다.

 

the radio / television or Tv (the television is the television set)

*식사의 이름 앞에 the를 쓰지않는다 ( breakdast, lunch, dinner )

하지만, 식사의 이름 앞에 형용사가 있을 때, a를 쓴다. 

* 명사  +  숫자 앞에 the를 쓰지않는다.
